ALDEBARAN DREAM WINS GROUP 1 VICTORIA OAKS SEE LAST LAP REPLAY

Chris Lang Jnr proves a worthy replacement as stable wins the Victoria Trotters Oaks

They say the apple doesn't fall far from the tree and that's obviously the case with Chris Lang Jnr. Whilst his father campaigns Inter Dominion champion Sundons Gift in Europe, the 23-year-old has been left to run the family's stable back home in Australia and what a job he's doing.

The youngster repaid his father's faith on Friday night by preparing Aldebaran Dream to score a stunning victory in the Group 1 $50,000 Dallas Building Victoria Trotters Oaks (2575m) at Moonee Valley.

Whilst the record books will count Chris Lang Snr as the trainer, "Junior" can take much of the credit with the filly an unraced proposition when his father departed for Sweden in April.

Her record now stands at three from three with the $3.80 second favourite overcoming anasty early check to win the coveted race by an expanding three-metres from Aftanoondelite ($17.40) with $1.50 favourite Arizona Blue a brave third after galloping early.

"Her senior owner Duncan McPherson is in London and rang me on the first corner to listen to the race," Lang Jnr explained. "I told him she'd been checked and it was all over so he hung up."

"I had to ring him back and tell her she'd won. He didn't believe me at first and then burst into tears. It was his first Group 1 winner and he's put plenty into the sport.

Aldebaran Dream scrored a remarkable win in the Victoria Trotters Oaks (2575m)
Aldebaran Dream hopes looked shattered when she was poleaxed by Arizona Blue soon after the start.
The Chris Lang- trained filly settled down 70m from the leader but recovered to come with a long sustained run and win pulling away the 3m.
Aftanoondelite looked the winner on the turn before Aldebaran Dream burst.
