ALDEBARAN PARK NEWS UPDATE MARCH 2018

March a red-letter month

Wow, what a month for Aldebaran Park – both on and off the track!

Tornado Valley, a New Zealand-bred son of our champion sire SKYVALLEY, took the trotting world by storm with three wins – including two at Group level – in the space of 19 days at Melton and is now rated the best square-gaiter in the country.

The gelding was the headline act of a busy month for SKYVALLEY, who is now within small change of leading the Trotting Sires’ Premiership for the first time.

Tornado Valley started his winning streak in the Group 1 $100,000 Seelite Windows & Doors Australian Trotting Grand Prix, leading throughout in a career-best 1:57.2 rating over 2240 metres with the closing 800 in a stunning 56.4.

A fortnight later the gelding backed up to win the Group 3 $20,000 2Construct Scotch Notch Memorial in 1:57.2 and closed out the month with a tough win in free-for-all company in 1:58.7.

SKYVALLEY left nine individual winners in March and they won 12 races between them!

Kyvalley Boomerang posted his most important win to date in the Ararat Trotters Cup to send his stake earnings beyond the $120,000 plateau, while a trio of three-year-olds in Reils (Melton & Bendigo), Kyvalley Finn (Kilmore) and Meadow Valley Sky (Ararat) all emerged successful.

Other recent SKYVALLEY winners were the very promising Picketts Ridge (Wyndham, NZ), the Melton winners Rift Valley (1:57.8) and My Skypocket (1:59.8) and Black Valley (Wangaratta).

A pair of Aldebaran Park owned trotters saluted the judge in March, Aldebaran Prince (ex Charming Yankee NZ) winning at Maryborough and Light The Flame scoring twice off long handicap marks at Kapunda.

Aldebaran Park established a new record for a yearling sold at auction when Aldebaran Knox (c, Muscle Hill-Kyvalley Aldebaran NZ) fetched $90,000 at the Pryde’s EasiFeed Australasian Premier Trotting Sale at Melton.

We sold four of the five highest priced youngsters at the sale!

Aldebaran Stephan (c, Pegasus Spur-Sundonna) sold for $60,000, Aldebaran Dominic (c, Andover Hall-Aldebaran Dream NZ) made $50,000 and Aldebaran Zander (c, Muscle Hill-Zoia Boko Swe) sold for $46,000.

Of the 12 lots offered by Aldebaran Park, 11 were sold and they grossed $346,000! Congratulations to Danny and Melinda Thackeray and all the Aldebaran Park Team.

A leg of the Aldebaran Park Monte Championship was held on Breed For Speed Night at Melton and victory fell the way of Any OId Way, trained by Brent Lilley and driven by Jackie Barker.
