Inter Dominion quinella! - December 2018

By Peter Wharton

Our champion sire SKYVALLEY Nz wrote his name into the history books when he became the first Australian-based trotting stallion to sire the quinella in an Inter Dominion Trotting Grand Final.

Tornado Valley Nz and Sky Petite, both members of SKYVALLEY’s first racing crop, ran 1-2 in the Group 1 $150,000 feature at Tabcorp Park Melton.

The New Zealand-bred Tornado Valley Nz, who made a clean sweep of the Interdominion series and was the leading points scorer, increased his stake tally to $412,887 from 24 wins and 23 placings in 78 starts, making him SKYVALLEY’s richest ever progeny. Sky Petite ($237,785) is her sire’s highest stakes-winning female.

Tornado Valley Nz has been shortlisted for the prestigious Elitloppet to be run at Solvalla racetrack, Stockholm, Sweden in May.

Congratulations to Tornado Valley’s breeders Petina Gaugler and Terry McMillan, owner Norm Jenkin, trainer Andy Gath and driver Kate Gath.

SKYVALLEY Nz, who is currently second on this year’s Sires premiership, left eight individual winners in two States and both islands of NZ during December.

Besides Tornado Valley Nz, SKYVALLEY Nz was represented by the Melton winner Gap Year, the Aldebaran Park bred Fear Not (Ballarat), No Republic (Bendigo), Skyflyer (Globe Derby Park) and the NZ winners Mr Good And Evil Nz (Auckland), War Admiral Nz (Dunedin) and Spotlight The Valley Nz (Invercargill).
