Western Australia Cup winner by Skyvalley Nz - February 2023

Talented SKYVALLEY NZ gelding Patched Tr 1.59.5 proved himself the top Western Australian trotter of the current season when he won the Group 2 $50,000 WA Trotters Cup at Gloucester Park. He won again at the Perth headquarters’ track a fortnight later.

It was his third success on end, and he comfortably defeated the best WA trotters in commission in the Cup after being required to give his rivals a 20 metre start.

In 47 starts Patched has now won 14 and been 17 times placed for $139,277 in stakes and he became the 18th $100,000 earner sired by SKYVALLEY.

SKYVALLEY NZ also figured as the sire of the Globe Derby Park winner Aldebaran Gwen (ex Aspenglow USA) and the damsire of the Gunbower winner Abbie.

Aldebaran Crescent (ex Maori Road) hoisted a fresh lifetime record of 1:55.7 when she won a heat of the Lyn McPherson Memorial Breed For Speed Gold Series at Bendigo. It was her 14th win and lifted her stake tally to beyond $210,000.

Another of the Aldebaran Park breed, Aldebaran Keepa NZ Tr 1.56.6 (Kadabra CA - Another Love NZ), last year’s Group 1 Victoria Oaks winner, maintained her devastating form when she came from third last to beat a strong field on Great Southern Star night at Melton. Registering her 8th career win and taking her Stakemoney to more than $116,000.

Aldebaran Keepa Nz was one of nine individual winners bred by Aldebaran Park during February. The others were the Melton winner Aldebaran Huey (ex Aldebaran Honey), the double Kilmore victor Aldebaran Stevie (YIELD BOKO Swe – I’m Sonialeelee NZ), Aldebaran Jaytee (YIELD BOKO Swe - Aldebaran Crumpet), Abbie (ex Aldebaran Peggy), Aldebaran Maverick (ex Maori Road), Hammer Son (ex Jingling Silver), Aldebaran Crescent and Aldebaran Gwen.

One of the highlights of a busy month was the crowning of the Aldebaran Park owned Aldebaran Alissa NZ - TR 1.57.7 - $71,051 as the SA Older Trotting Mare of the Year for 2022. During the season she won four races including the Kapunda Trotters Cup and was runner-up in the Pride of Petite and Strathalbyn Trotters Cup for Ryan Hryhorec, who trained and drove her.

Look out for the Aldebaran Park yearlings at the Nutrien Equine Sale at Oaklands Junction on April 2 and 3. The 16-strong consignment – 11 from the Aldebaran Park draft and 5 for longstanding clients David Scott, Ashley Hayens and Dr. Keith Gibson - includes three colts and two fillies by ALDEBARAN EAGLE USA, two colts and two fillies by Volstead USA, two colts and a filly by Father Patrick USA, a colt by Centurion ATM USA, a filly by Southwind Frank USA, a filly by Trixton USA and a filly by YIELD BOKO Swe.

A strongly built colt with a constitution to match and a good attitude, he’s by Aldebaran Eagle, sire of 2022 Australian 2YO Trotting Filly of the Year Rockinwithattitude. A half-brother to a winner, the colt’s winning dam Secret Sundaze is a half-sister to NZ Aged Trotter of the Year and Dominion Handicap winner Mountbatten and to the dams of the $100,000 earners Doff Your Cap and I Dream Of Jeannie. He’s from the same maternal family as Inter Dominion placegetter My Rhythm Of The Night and cups winner Game Command. He boasts a 4x4 cross to the champion American sire Valley Victory.

A strongly built, well conformed filly who’s a quick learner, she’s by champion American sire Father Patrick. She’s the first foal of a Muscle Hill half-sister to Australasia’s fastest ever trotter, triple Bill Collins Sprint winner and Aged Trotting Mare of the Year Maori Time (1:51.5) and Inter Dominion champion Maori Law.  She’s a close relative of the Vicbred and Breeders Crown winner Powderkeg and the Oaks winners Skye Rocket and Aftanoondelite.
