WINNERS EVERYWHERE!! - Setptember 2019

By Peter Wharton

Aldebaran Park, one of the prime movers in Australia for the globalisation of trotting, enjoyed success – both on and off the racetrack – in three different countries – in August.

Leading the way were the promising young Aldebaran Park-owned square-gaiters Aldebaranwalkabout and Syrinx Minx, who both saluted at the famed The Red Mile track in Lexington, Kentucky.

The three-year-old colt Aldebaranwalkabout¸ who was bred at Aldebaran Park out of the USA mare Aldebaran Turnpike, won by 10 lengths in a career-best 1:55.2 with the last quarter in 27.2.

While Syrinx Minx, a two-year-old filly, notched her first success after starting from the outside No. 8 gate and coming from second last at the half-mile to win by four lengths in 1:56.8.

On the homefront, Valley Ess Jay, an eight-year-old gelding and one of the first crop of our flagship stallion SKYVALLEY, became his sire’s ninth $100,000 earned when he scored at Shepparton.

Kimmywho (Ballarat) and the talented Picketts Ridge, who came off a 30 metre handicap at Winton, New Zealand, were other recent SKYVALLEY winners. Picketts Ridge has won five of his 12 starts to date and over $35,000 in stakes.

The frozen semen sire EILEAN DONON continues to build on his impressive stud record. His daughters Hotjane Bling, who was bred by Aldebaran Park, and Nica Macdonon, won at Menangle and Shepparton respectively in September. Hotjane Bling won in a career-best 1:55.4 and is now EILEAN DONON’s fastest Australian-bred progeny.

From 36 foals of racing age, EILEAN DONON has left 21 starters and 12 have been successful and seven have been placed. They have earned more than $600,000 in stakes, an average of almost $30,000 per starter!

Jaspervellabeach, a colt bred and sold by Aldebaran Park, has been nominated for the Harness Breeders Victoria 2YO Pacing Colt of the Year award. The colt won four of his six starts including the Group 1 $125,000 WA Golden Slipper and the Group 2 $50,000 WA Champagne Classic and bankrolled $123,133.

We are delighted with the early reports of our two-year-old trotting filly Aldebaran Flame, who is being trained in New Zealand by Bernie Hackett and Michelle Wallis at Pinebrook Lodge, Waiuku.
