Champagne Success - April 2019

By Peter Wharton

Exciting Western Australian juvenile Jaspervellabeach, who was bred, raised and sold by Aldebaran Park, broke a long-standing race record when he overwhelmed a top field in the Group 2 $50,000 Champagne Classic at Gloucester Park.

The colt rated 1:56.9 over 2130 metres to eclipse the previous record that was set in 1992.

He is unbeaten in three attempts to so far – all in Gloucester Park – in 1:56.8, 1:56.9 and 1:59 – and has earned $40,967 in stakes.

Jaspervellabeach is the fifth foal and second winner of Aldebaran Bromac NZ, an unraced Falcon Seelster mare who left the very smart Aldebaran Macha 1:54.7 ($134,722).

Other Aldebaran Park bred winners in April were Aldebaran Jaytee, a four-year-old YIELD BOKO gelding out of Aldebaran Crumpet, who overcame a 20-metre handicap to win at Cranbourne – his fourth win from seven starts, and the three-year-old filly Chezmac (ex Ally McBlossom), a winner at Bathurst (1:58.1) and Bankstown.

Aldebaran Broozer NZ, a gelding owned by Aldebaran Park, maintained his devastating form when he created a new track record at Kapunda in his 13.4-metres win, his sixth lifetime success.

Our champion sire SKYVALLEY left six individual winners for the month – on both sides of the Tasman – and is now in third position on this season’s All Aged Sires’ premiership.

Reils, a four-year-old gelding, provided the highlight when he came from third last to win in a career-best 1:57.8 at Melton with the last 800 in 58.1! He has won 11 of his 26 starts to date.

Other recent SKYVALLEY winners were Miss Invasion, who posted her sixth win this season at Albion Park, Orlandos Princess (Kilmore) and Fremarksrooster (Hamilton) and in New Zealand, the highly talented four-year-old War Admiral (Winton – off 40m) and Fekitoa, who broke maiden ranks with a runaway success at Banks Peninsula.

Daring Angel and Jade Nien, both members of SKYVALLEY’s current two-year-old crop, finished second and fourth respectively in the Abrahams Classic at Shepparton.
