Molly in the money! - May 2019

By Peter Wharton

Mollys Purse, a two-year-old daughter of frozen import EILEAN DONON, was the unanimous choice for Aldebaran Park Horse of the Month for May.

Having only her second start, Mollys Purse led and trotted flawlessly throughout to comfortably beat the boys in the Group 2 $30,000 Trot NSW 2YO Final at Menangle.

Mollys Purse is one of only two foals from the last crop of EILEAN DONON. Of EILEAN DONON’s total of 36 foals in Australia, 21 have raced and 11 have emerged successful and they have banked $568,674 – an average of $27,080 per starter!

SKYVALLEY was represented by three winners during the month – all four-year-olds - in Skyline, a ‘new’ winner at Addington, Cuchulainn (Invercargill) and Kyvalley Finn, who posted win No 7 at Bendigo.

SKYVALLEY has left 19 individual winners to date this season for progeny earnings of $623,406 and is again clearly the leading Australian-based trotting stallion.

Godofthunder, a four-year-old gelding by the Swedish import YIELD BOKO, notched his second win for the term at Victor Harbour and he became his sire’s fifth winner from only six starters.

Fear Not and Chezmac, a pair of Aldebaran Park bred horses, were in the news last month. Fear Not, a daughter of SKYVALLEY and Aldebaran Maori, sent her stake earnings over the $100,000 mark, while Chezmac, a three-year-old pacing filly out of Ally McBlossom, posted her fifth lifetime win and her third on end at Goulburn.

Aldebaran Park is again the major sponsor of the rich Vicbred Super Series for two, three and four-year-old trotters comprising 12 $10,000 heats for all six divisions held at country tracks, a Group 1 $100,000 Final for each division to be run at Melton and three $25,000 Silver Trots at Melton.

The six $100,000 Finals and three Silver events will all be held on Friday, July 5.
