Aldebaran Zeus Conquers the Kiwis - April 2023

Aldebaran Zeus T 1.52.6 (Muscle Hill USA- Zoia Boko Swe), the newly crowned Victoria 4YO Trotter of the Year giving him back to back titles, humbled the best New Zealand trotters in commission in the Group 2 $41,000 Waikato Flying Mile at Cambridge Raceway.

Starting from a wide barrier draw, the Aldebaran Park bred and part-owned entire was parked briefly before working his way to the front at the bell. Peeling off his last half mile in 57.6 and last quarter in 28.3, Aldebaran Zeus was unchallenged in the home straight, winning by open lengths in 1:55.9.

It was his 18th lifetime success and his ninth at Group level and his lifetime stakes are now in excess of $400,000.

ALDEBARAN EAGLE USA, a Muscle Hill USA Stallion who stood at Aldebaran Park before his untimely death, experienced success both on and off the track.

His brilliant daughter Rockinwithattitude  TR 1.57.9 - $130,000, the reigning Vicbred and Tatlow champion, was named the Victorian 2YO Trotting Filly of the Year for 2022 – another title to sit alongside her Australian 2yo Trotting Filly of the Year for 2002 Award, while two of ALDEBARAN EAGLE’s first crop being homebreds Aldebaran Boyd (ex Aldebaran Revenue) and Aldebaran Tanisha (ex Aldebaran Turnpike USA) scored at Cranbourne and Kilmore respectively.

Leading sire SKYVALLEY NZ enjoyed another very successful month headed up by the Melton winners Watch And Act, the winner of four out of eight this season, and Sellune.

Other SKYVALLEY NZ winners were Kyvalleyhoneybunny, Golden Sunset and Lucky Way. He also figures as the damsire of the very impressive Lady Adelia, a winner at Bendigo and Warragul.

Aldebaran Tess NZ TR 1.54.9 (Muscle Hill USA - Solar Powered NZ), who was bred and is raced by Aldebaran Park, boosted her tally of successes at Menangle to five with back-to-back wins in 1:55.3 and 1:58. She now won 14 races lifetime and $122,293 in lifetime stakes.

Aldebaran Park bred seven individual winners for April.

Besides Aldebaran Zeus, Aldebaran Tess, Aldebaran Boyd and Aldebaran Tanisha, Aldebaran Park bred winners included the three-year-old fillies Aldebaran Miley (Father Patrick USA - Mason Magic) and Aldebaran Brooke (Southwind frank USA - Excellent Boko Swe) and the Albion Park victor Hammer Son (Majestic Son Ca - Jingling Silver).

At the FARM – April saw the 2023 Nutrien Sale of the yearlings as featured on our website in the Yearling and Trotting Sales Section – with all yearlings offered being SOLD. We wish every success to the New Owners, and we look forward to seeing them ALL in the winners’ circle in the years to come. We thank ALL for their support of Aldebaran Park.

Weaning of last season’s foals – always an exciting time to observe the development of the foals as they move forward in life – has commenced and we look forward with anticipation to their growth and progress over the coming months.

Aldebaran Park is saddened by the recent passing of Margareta Wallenius-Kleberg, the first lady of Swedish trotting and owner of the country’s leading stud farm, Menhammar Stuteri, and Stoner Creek Farm in Lexington, Kentucky.

Margareta was a member of the Hall of Fame in both USA and Sweden and served on the board of the Hambletonian Society, Solvalla Racecourse and was president of the Swedish Breeders Association.

We have been fortunate to have had an international friendship and business relationship with Margareta and the TEAM at Menhammar Stuteri over the last decade, with the Swedish Broodmare Aldebaran Teal having been imported here in partnership, along now with the opportunity to race her yearling filly by Who’s Who - named Aldebaran Margareta.

Resident stallion Dancinginthedark M has also come to us from Menhammar Stuteri and we look forward with anticipation to his 2023 foals later this year.

We pass on our condolences and best wishes to all at Menhammar and immediate family

Internationally - we are heading to Sweden to see the running of the 2023 Elitloppet at the end of May and we will ensure we see Broodmare Maori Time and her Readly Express yearling when there.

Aldebaran Zeus has remained in New Zealand for 2 more races with the Group 1 – 2023 Rowe Cup at Mays end his main mission before returning back to Australia for a well deserved break.
